Within this district and its environs one may find the remnants of what was the birthplace of the city. Its winding streets themselves provide their own special enchantment whilst we stroll down calle Toledo and calle Bailen, from the Puerta de Toledo to calle Mayor. In this part of the city, considered one of Madrid’s most beautiful, there are numerous typical Spanish tasty tapa restaurants, and many hot spots to enjoy Madrid’s nightlife. It is at the same time a monumental area beautifully united with some stunning churches, such as the Iglesia de San Cayetano and the Iglesia de San Isidro, but whilst maintaining the authentic feel of a historical city quarter. “La Latina I” is very close to the Madrid “Rastro”, a smorgasbord flea market which takes place around the Ribera de los Curtidores. Tourists and locals alike flood to the Rastro in search of bits and bobs, bargains, for the sake of tourism, to try Madrid’s gastronomy, or simply for a stroll. As midday approaches, visitors approach the area bars, especially around the Plaza de Cascorro and have a glass of wine accompanied by some tapas… it is diverse in all that it has to offer. We can also walk towards Plaza Mayor with its famous archways filed with souvenirs and crafts, or towards Plaza Santa Ana where the Spanish Theatre, and recently renovated Hotel Me by Melia boasting a gorgeous terrace with spectacular views over the city, or to simply have breakfast in the Plaza Tirso de Molina even buy a bouquet of flowers from the renowned Flower Market. We wish you a nice travel and a pleasant stay in Madrid.
